Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) and Power Africa announced a new partnership on January 20, 2022, to promote clean, dependable, and affordable energy generation for households, essential services, and enterprises. In addition, the collaboration is expected to unlock the required funds to expand the decentralized renewable energy market and support ARE's goals of adding 30,000 megawatts of installed generation capacity in Sub-Saharan Africa.

This development is crucial for advancing electricity access and the shift towards green energy in the region. Prior to the partnership, ARE launched its Energy Compact, committing to support private sectors in providing sustainable energy services to at least 500 million additional people, creating at least 5 million jobs, and avoiding 1 billion tonnes of carbon emissions by 2030. This partnership will support ARE's committed Energy Compact.

Based on the ARE commitment to improving energy access and decentralized renewable energy development in sub-Saharan Africa, more partnerships and support for decentralized renewable energy projects is expected in the near future. Some of these supports will take the shape of networking opportunities, market intelligence, capacity building, and technical assistance to increase the adoption of decentralized renewable energy in Sub-Saharan Africa.
