Independent electricity producer EDF Renewables has commenced the construction of its 140MW Coleskop wind farm facility, located in Umsombomvu Local Municipality, South Africa. Coleskop is one of three projects with a combined capacity of 420 MW awarded to EDF Renewables and its partners. The facility consists of 26 Goldwind wind turbines with 124-meter hub heights and 83-meter blade lengths. Standard Bank, ABSA, Investec, and Momentum Metropolitan will offer an R3.5 billion (~$205 million) loan to finance the project.

According to Tristan de Drouas, CEO of EDF Renewables, project completion is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025, and the wind farm is expected to feed the national grid. Coleskop, along with the other two projects, has signed a 20-year power purchase deal with the state utility, Eskom, to provide electricity to 420,000 customers.
