Havenhill Synergy Limited, a leading clean-tech utility and energy access company, has been awarded a $2.3 million grant from Power Africa via the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This funding will be split with four other companies competent in healthcare facility electrification (HFE) — Aptech Africa, D.Light, Equatorial Power Ltd., and Solar Works B.V. — to electrify 245 off-grid healthcare facilities in Nigeria, Kenya, Malawi, Sierra Leone and Uganda.‌‌

In Africa, about 60% of healthcare facilities do not have access to electricity, and of those that do, less than 30% have reliable access. Access to stable energy is critical for these healthcare facilities to provide high-quality and efficient services. In Nigeria, around 40% of the functional primary health centres (PHCs) are without access to electricity.

This funding will be instrumental in reducing the above figure. Havenhill will use its portion of the grant to electrify 50 primary healthcare facilities in Oyo State in Nigeria. In addition to the funding offered by Power Africa, Havenhill will infuse significant equity and debt to electrify the healthcare facilities.‌‌

This project is part of the company's Energizing Healthcare Initiative. Havenhill's Energizing Healthcare Initiative is designed to deploy bespoke power systems to healthcare institutions. Since its launch in 2010, Havenhill has recorded ground-breaking strides in providing reliable electricity to businesses, off-grid communities, industries, and healthcare facilities. The scale-up phase of the Energizing Healthcare Initiative is set to improve healthcare services for nearly 700,000 patients annually.‌‌ Havenhill is committed to deploying clean-energy solutions to bridge the energy gap and improve healthcare service delivery across the country.
