Sun Africa and UGT Renewables have signed a memorandum of understanding with Hitachi Energy, a global technology leader committed to a sustainable energy future. The agreement enables the companies to collaborate on utility-scale solar photovoltaic power generation projects that will accelerate the global energy transition and expand access to electricity in emerging and developing economies.

The companies will work together to increase electrification and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the rollout of well-integrated solar energy solutions in accordance with the conditions of the newly signed non-exclusive agreement. Sun Africa and UGT Renewables will be responsible for the development of the projects, which will be transferred to the designated operator upon completion. While Hitachi Energy will engineer solutions for optimum power collection and high-voltage grid connections, as well as supervisory control and data collection. The agreement stipulates that each project will be fully funded and include a maintenance and operations plan.

In Angola, the partners are currently completing their first joint project, the largest solar photovoltaic power plant in sub-Saharan Africa, located across seven sites which will generate 370 MW. They are also in talks with several African, Europe and Asia countries to develop a series of utility-scale projects with a total capacity of more than 12 GW.
