Nyanwamba II is one of the two hydropower projects on the Nyamwamba river in Kasese, a local government in Uganda and the third operational hydro project in the country. It is a project that demonstrates the Ugandan government's commitment to the development of renewable energy in the country.

Construction of the project commenced in October 2019 but faced several challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, the challenges were surmounted, and on 17 March 2022, after successfully completing testing and commissioning, the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company (UETCL) awarded the completed powerplant a Commercial Operation Date (COD) letter. The Nyamwamba II, a $22 million project by Serengeti Energy (previously known as responsibility Renewable Energy Holdings), will provide clean and reliable energy to the local power supply.

‌‌The Nyamwamba II project demonstrates the efforts of the Ugandan government to use renewable energy to strengthen and diversify the country's electricity infrastructure and provide access to reliable and affordable electricity. The new capacity will support the local government to reach its 100% renewable energy target for the Kasese district.

‌‌The Regional Liquidity Support Facility (RLSF), an initiative by KfW (Germany's state-owned development bank) and the African Trade Insurance Agency (ATI), is supporting the project, and documentation will soon be executed.
