Against the backdrop of the first week of COP27 climate change summit in Egypt, Prince Jaime de Bourbon de Parme, the Netherlands' climate ambassador, announced the award to president Hage Geingob on behalf of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. Both parties had discussed the necessity of building a stronger alliance to carry out commitments to address the climate emergency. On Friday, Namibia unveiled a green hydrogen strategy that should create a framework to support the growth of the green hydrogen industry and offer guidance for future green hydrogen projects built on state-owned property in terms of planning, acquiring, and overseeing.‌‌

The Namibian government is concentrating its efforts on ensuring widespread, affordable development of renewable energy sources and devising models for sustainably optimizing tax revenue, local development in renewable energy investments, and green ammonia production. Namibia has already inked energy-related contracts with businesses from the EU, Germany, Belgium, and Japan.
