ROAM launches electric mass transport bus in Kenya
With Kenya's 2025 transportation energy transition targets, ROAM's project is a step in the right path.
Electric vehicle manufacturer ROAM has unveiled its first mass transit electric bus targeting urban areas in Kenya. Along with the bus deployment, several charging points will be installed as ROAM makes preparations to build its own charging infrastructure to support the buses.
The transport sector is one of the major contributors to Kenya’s greenhouse gas emissions. 18% of Kenya’s total greenhouse gas emissions are from the transport sector, and about 40% of CO2 emissions are from the transport sector. As a result, the country seeks to increase the penetration of electric vehicles to at least 5% of all vehicles imported annually by 2025.
The conditioned 77 passengers capacity buses with a 70km/hour speed rate, among other perks, will provide commuters with comfortable, reliable and affordable public transportation while providing investors with an environmentally sustainable solution that is cheaper to maintain than fuel-run buses.
