The Wuse Market solar power mini-grid project is part of Green Village Electricity's Distributed Renewable Energy commercialization initiative to provide clean and reliable electricity to underserved economic clusters like markets and plazas across Nigeria. The project is a collaboration between Abuja Electricity Distribution Company and Green Village Electricity - the first of its kind between a conventional distribution utility company and an independent renewable energy company.

The 1MW interconnected solar power mini-grid system will supply traders with a reliable power supply and displace petrol or diesel generators, mitigating significant GHG emissions. The project aims to connect 5,000 market trader stalls to solar power and displace 3,000 generators, thereby affording the end user's extended trading hours while significantly increasing productivity and alternative power cost reductions. Additionally, with this program, AEDC will achieve its energy supply reliability objectives.

The project is aligned with the expectations of the Federal Government of Nigeria Energising Economies Initiative delivered through the Rural Electrification Agency; this initiative is supported by AEDC's recent USTDA grant to fund studies to identify and develop similar projects.
