The United Arab Emirate Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) launched the Etihad 7 project as part of the ongoing Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2022. The Etihad 7 is an innovative program aimed at securing private and public sector funding for renewable energy projects in Africa.

The Etihad 7 target is to supply clean electricity to 100 million people by 2035. Notably, the Etihad 7 program will assist African governments to rapidly meet growing energy needs without the corresponding surge in greenhouse gas emissions by financing renewable energy projects across the continent.

According to His Excellency Sheikh Shakhboot, Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, "as the proud host of the global climate change conference COP28 in 2023, the UAE is committed to partnering with Sub-Saharan African nations to achieve sustainable development and advance the greater region's welfare through collaborative efforts in the field of renewable energy." This bold effort will be a focal focus of the UAE's efforts to contribute to the global sustainability agenda during the next decade.
