Zergoun Green Energy (ZEG), an Algerian company, has launched a solar PV module manufacturing factory in the homonymous province of southern Algeria, Ouargla. The facility will have a solar module production capacity of 180 MW annually.

According to Zergoun, it invested an estimated DZD 1.7 billion ($11.6 million) in the construction and equipment of the solar manufacturing plant. The construction costs were financed using 50% equity and 50% bank loans. With the development of a solar module manufacturing facility by Zergoun, Algeria now has four manufacturers of solar PV panels.

Despite being 95% automated, Zergoun expects that at least 150 direct jobs will be created. The company also formulated partnerships with the University of Ouargla and the Centre for the Development of Renewable Energy (CDER). The three parties will collaborate on skills development programs. The establishment of this facility will make a substantial contribution to the nation's "Solar 1,000 MW" energy program.
